In accordance with Article 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we hereby inform you that Yangju Adoptee Archive collects and processes certain personal data in connection with its activities and communications, including data from visitors to our website and as part of the development of our digital archive.


2. Data Controller

Yangju Adoptee Archive & Community is the data controller responsible for the processing of the personal data we receive.

The purpose of the association is to support the development of a global community for Korean adoptees from the orphanage 양주 영아원 (Yangju Orphanage) in Dongducheon, South Korea, with the aim of connecting them to the local Korean cultural heritage and history in the Yangju region.

  • Increase awareness of the Yangju Orphanage and its history (1963–1981)
  • Establish a digital archive for and about adoptees from the Yangju Orphanage
  • Develop activities and share knowledge locally in South Korea
  • Support research and international dialogue
  • Build networks among adoptees globally and with their Korean roots
  • Foster community and identity exchange
  • Explore methods for collective knowledge gathering and creation
  • Work towards improving opportunities for adoptees to reconnect with their biological origins

We process personal data of adoptees and contributors based on:

  • Article 6(1)(f) – legitimate interests
  • Article 9(2)(g) – substantial public interest
  • Article 4(11) – consent for publication

Published Data:
  • Name
  • Year of birth
  • Period of stay at Yangju Baby Home
  • Date and receiving country of adoption
  • Adoption agency
  • Photos (historical and current)
  • Videos and podcasts
  • Previously published information about persons related to the Yangju Orphanage
Internal Data (not published):
  • Name and contact details of individuals who contact us
  • Adoption information from adoption records


7. Disclosure and Storage

We do not share your data with third parties and do not transfer data outside the EU/EEA.

Personal data is stored for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose of the archive. Published information is retained for reasons of documentation and cultural heritage.


8. Withdrawal of Consent

You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the contact information above. Withdrawal does not affect the legality of any processing carried out before the withdrawal.
